Spunlace Definition: What Is Spunlace Nonwoven Fabric?

Spunlace (also called hydroentanglement) is a bonding process for dry or wet fibrous webs made by carding, air lapping, or wet deposition, the resulting bonded fabric is a nonwoven.

It uses fine, high-pressure jets of water that penetrate the belt, strike the conveyor belt (or "yarn" as in the papermaking conveyor), and bounce, causing the fibers to become entangled.

Spunlace nonwoven fabric uses short-staple fibers. The most popular are viscose (38mm * 1.67 dtex) and polyester (38mm * 1.56 dtex) staple fibers.

Sometimes polypropylene (PP) is also used in the production of spunlace.

Some other raw materials, such as cotton, tencel, chitin, etc. These fibers are more natural and come from plants or animals, which is more expensive.

How To Check The Quality Of Spunlace Fabric?

The most important thing for the spunlace fabric is its composition, as viscose fibers are generally more expensive than polyester fibers. The viscose gives the spunlace better absorbency and superior wiping quality.

 

The faster the polyester burns, the more difficult it will be to exterminate. After the burn, black induration will occur. But 100% viscose after engraving is only gray, no induration. So burn faster and more induration, the fabric contains more polyester.
